History of the project (the master bath)
Our clients had purchased their home is a fixer upper eleven years prior to contacting us. The house (a former rental in Sunnyvale, Ca.) was a modest 1500 square foot three bedroom two bath home. They wanted a larger bedroom and bath to act as a retreat from work and and place to reflect.

While working with our clients we found they had specific needs for the bath as well as the bedroom.
Light, light and more light.
Room to move around was a biggie too. They where tired of not having the room to even turn around much less both use the bathroom at the same time.

The existing floor plan of the bath has an attached changing area and closet (obvious designed for Santa's elf s). We incorporated the two areas into one to gain the badly needed space. An additional gable line framed above the bath to increase ceiling height and to accommodate gable windows and operable skylights. Special cabinets where installed that floated 12" above the floor to give a feeling space. Mirrors, lights glass block and marble where added for finishing touches. Bret (the owner) had specific needs for lighting at night. He refused to us the fluorescent light we had to install for "title 24". So we installed ribbon lights underneath the vanity cabinets with a motion sensor. Now he never misses. Sue also had specific needs. She didn't like cold floors and wouldn't think of putting a carpet on her new tile floor. We install an under floor heating pad with a timer.

The master bedroom was pushed out the back 14 feet basically doubling the size the the room. An arch was installed where the eight foot wide window was to connect the two rooms together. A walk-in closet was added at the side of the new room the depth of the new room and the width of the bathroom. Niches and a large arch was added to accommodate the clients art works. And a deck was added outside the new 10 foot sliding glass door for a place to have coffee on the week ends. Now all I have to do is get them to drink coffee.
