History of the project
Our clients had purchased a post Victorian pauper's cottage in 1989. They were saving their money for a complete house renovation and really hated to invest in a bath that would be destroyed when the renovation started. The state of the existing bath was unbearable.
Solution:
After having interviewed our clients, we found that they were both artists and had a rather large art collection. They enjoyed bold colors, and wanted a whimsical feeling to the bath without moving any plumbing fixtures.

Pre Existing Conditions:
What we had to work with was a bath that had not been touched for over 50 years. There was plastic tile acting as a wainscot around the perimeter of the walls. The pedestal sink was OK, but the "low boy" toilet had to go. The tub/shower was in good condition.

What we did:
We stripped the wainscot, removed the toilet and pedestal sink. The flooring was removed and replaced with Mexican pavers. Beaded wainscot was installed at a height of four feet. The walls where faux painted and the chair rail above the wainscot was decorated with alternating diamond of paint and gold leaf. At the point, where the wainscot and the tile for the tub surround started, a pre-cast concrete column was installed. A full height mirror was put up to visually enlarge the room. To top off the project a shower curtain rod was fabricated from 1 1/2 inch copper tubing.
Client comments:
"We could not imagine the transformation that was to take place in our bath. Big Sky Construction & Design worked within our meager budget and eclectic artist tastes. What a surprise when we were informed that the bath was to be featured in the 1995 March issue of "Sunset" Magazine. The bathroom facelift makes it a bearable wait, until we can complete our entire home. We , of course, will have Big Sky Construction & Design do the renovation."
